On Monday, Oct. 13, the School of Medicine hosted the inaugural “All Research Cores Symposium,” which brought together representatives from across the campus showcasing the state-of-the-art equipment and research services available across the UCR campus.
More than 110 attendees, including STEM high school students, attended the event.
Exhibitions included "space tomatoes," 3D printing of equipment parts, single cell and spatial resolution of tissue for gene expression and metabolite profiling.
In addition to the ten UCR cores, representatives from Agilent participated. Attendees were treated to live demos of the latest and greatest Keyence microscope from the Microscopy and Imaging core.
Mary Hamer, administrator of the School of Medicine Research Core, opened the symposium emphasizing the wealth of facilities available for UCR researchers.
Vice Chancellor of Research and Economic Development (RED) Rodolfo Torres, PhD expressed the support of the research cores and provided a summary of research funding at UCR and RED’s role in advocacy for continued research funding.
In the closing remarks, Associate Dean for Biomedical Research Meera Nair, PhD, highlighted the need for synergy and collaboration between the research cores to gain visibility to best serve the UCR research community and ensure continued groundbreaking research.
Organization of the symposium was provided by Mary Hamer, Jackie Seybert and Adan Herrera from the School of Medicine.
