After years of planning and two years of construction, the UC Riverside School of Medicine will celebrate the grand opening of the new School of Medicine Education Building II on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.

The ribbon cutting ceremony, which will take place at 10:30 a.m., marks a pivotal moment in the school's history as the SOM celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The new building will provide the space to increase enrollment numbers to 125 medical students per class, helping the school achieve its mission of training a diverse workforce of physicians and improving access to healthcare in inland Southern California. The building will also offer new study facilities, instructional areas, and academic and administrative offices over 57,000 assignable square feet.

 

"We're looking forward to welcoming students, faculty, and staff to the building that will serve as the new home for the UCR School of Medicine," said Kate Dorff, manager of External Relations and Protocol, who is organizing the ribbon cutting ceremony. "It's been exciting to watch the building get closer to completion each day, and we can't wait to see how the new space helps us improve medical training and better serve the health needs in the community."

The event will include guided tours of the building beginning at 11 a.m.

Current students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members are invited to attend the ribbon cutting. The event is free for all, but advance registration is required.
